TWI Innovation Network seeing robots in making for automated inspection

Collaborative initiatives from within the TWI Innovation Network have led to a potential new application with TWI industrial AIP members at its core, whereby non-destructive testing can be performed robotically to increase efficiency and speed of inspection at manufacturing environments as well as end user sites. The latest configurations were displayed and revisited as part of the AutoDisc project (a collaboration across the IUK with support from the ATI), that involved Jackweld (innovation accelerator-TWI Industrial Member) for design, Brunel Innovation Centre (the first innovation centre of the network with Brunel University London) for advanced signal processing/guided user interface, and TWI for NDT expertise, coordinated by InnotecUK for robotics/automation.

The sophisticated robotic solutions that are being built are lightweight and can accommodate sensing systems.

End use sectors include offshore (Oil and Gas, renewables; wind farms, wave/tidal systems) as well as aerospace.
