TWI Hellas forms partnership with University of West Attica

Thu, 05 December, 2019

Athens based TWI Hellas, the Greece office of international research and technology organisation TWI Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Research Laboratory of Energy Applications and Energy Saving Systems (EAESS), of the University of West Attica.

The strategic partnership is being led by Dr Panagiotis Chatzakos, Regional Manager, TWI Hellas and Professor Antonios Mononis, Director of the EAESS Research Laboratory.  The University of West Attica was established in 2018 as a result of the merger between Piraeus University of Applied Sciences and Athens University of Applied Sciences, and is now the third biggest university in Greece.

The purpose of the collaboration is to accelerate research into electrical energy systems for sustainable power production technologies, with particular emphasis on the application of electrohydrodynamics (EHD) which looks at the dynamics of electrically charged fluids, the motions of ionized particles and their interactions with electric fields and the surrounding fluid.  The partners’ first task will be to scope out and develop a research plan in order to focus on securing national and European funding to enhance their joint activities.  Longer term, the aim is to develop new renewable energy applications that will expand the range of systems and options currently available for buildings and industry.

Dr Chatzakos, TWI Hellas said “I am delighted that TWI Hellas’ first strategic partnership in Greece is with the University of West Attica and I anticipate being able to stimulate the renewable energy industry in Greece and beyond with our developments.”

Dr Moronis, EAESS Lab added “I am very pleased to announce our partnership with TWI Hellas, and look forward to a creative and productive collaboration within our common interests.”
